This isn’t a very feminist view I know. But I’ve suffered through 3 boring repetitive books. All to read Gregori’s and it’s more of the same. Again, Feehan's storytelling seduced me. She does tend to use the same phrases a lot. Another Goodreads friend aptly coined them 'Feehanisms.' She is so right. Despite that, I can't get enough of her writing. The Carpathians take the vampire story in a different direction that utterly compelling and unforgettable. I was so glad to read Gregori's story after meeting him in Dark Desire. The good news is I get introduced to even more yummy, intense men in these books.

Dalamar has the potential to be a great character. In a world where elves almost exclusively worship the gods of good, having one that worships the gods of evil is intriguing. Why did he turn from the light? Who would he choose to he exiled from his homeland for the sake of his magic? Gregori is very old and has some old ideas. He is stubborn and overbearing. But he is also very sympathetic. He loves Savannah so completely. And their love scenes are very, very hot.The Dark Mage will continue to respawn until Wave 5 reaches 99% in Tier 1. This allows it to be farmed by players with late pre-Hardmode and higher gear. Savannah will grow up, leave the Carpathian mountains and she will become one of the world's greatest magicians. Nobody will know that what they see is real and her magic is real.

To be fair, Raistlin’s apprentice Dalamar is not one of my favorite Dragonlance characters. And I’ve long since soured on prequels. I nearly threw the book across the room in disgust. It’s safe to say I wasn’t a happy bunny. But this was Gregori’s book. And I’d suffered through 3 long seemingly never ending books to get here. Books full of long flowing velvet hair, velvet skin, tiny waists, shapely breasts etc etc etc so I wasn’t going to quit now. Savannah Dubrinsky, is the daughter of Raven and Mikhail, the prince of the Carpathian people. When she learns that Gregori, the infamous “Dark One” is her intented lifemate, known as the boogie man of their people, the most respected and feared of their kind, she knows at eighteen years old she is not ready to tie herself to such a creature. So she pleads for time, five years in the states. Gregori has lived for centuries, one of the oldest of their kind, he knows he will not be a easy mate, so he gives her that time, despite the fact that he isn’t sure he can wait five years for her. Savannah has now had her precious five years, and while on her last stop on her tour in San Francisco, her closest friend is killed by a vampire, and Gregori saves her. She knows that this day would come, but she also knew she would never be ready to be his lifemate. She is overcome with grief over her closest friend, and being tied to a dark and dangerous man, but they decide to head to New Orleans, for the jazz music festival, and soon they will be facing hunters from the human society out to destroy their kind, and a master vampire and only working together will they be able to survive.Savannah did realize pretty earlier in the story that she was wrong, she was just scared and once she was in with Gregori - she was IN for the long-haul (unlike her mother her is probably still hemming and hawing. I had started this book, wondering why it'd been nearly 5 years since i've read a Feehan novel and this reminded me why. Oh and did i forget to mention that the hero knew about her birth and was essentially waiting for her to "come of age" EEEWWWWWW Everyone calm down and let me explain before you loose you minds. She is Carpathian not human. This is not a case of arranged marriage when you can love someone else and/or hate your true mate. THEY ARE MADE FOR EACH OTHER. And without each other they will live an awful life.
