About this deal

Chip Kidd is an American author, editor and graphic designer, best known for his innovative book covers. And I'll say this. It wasn't until it was totally explained to me that I knew what the hell was going on with Colorless Tsukuru by Murakami. I didn't know there was a hand, I didn't know the different colors represented different characters. I guess it's interesting to wonder if I'd have gotten it after reading the book, if Murakami is the kind of guy who doesn't need to sell based on covers so much. But I just wasn't feeling that one. Now, all that said, the first half of this book is really interesting, posing objects and art on a scale from instantly recognizable and understandable to confusing and something that leaves the viewer pondering. The first part of the book asks a really good design question: Do I want this design to provide instant recognition and clarity (subway map) or do I want this design to intrigue someone (movie poster).

The beauty of TED talks books are that they're done by experts in whatever field is being discussed. You, the reader, can trust that they know their stuff- I find it comforting. The books, based on the 18 minute presentations, are not so long so that you feel overwhelmed or bored. I find myself branching out and exploring topics that I wouldn't normally be interested in because of their brevity. I'd never put too much thought into product design or labeling and Chip Kidd was just the guy to introduce it to me. Kidd is currently associate art director at Knopf, an imprint of Random House. He first joined the Knopf design team in 1986, when he was hired as a junior assistant by Sara Eisenman. My dad was an alcoholic who was always in and out of jail for drinking and driving, so he was never around. Typical, right? Girls without dads grow up to be the biggest whores because the first man who is supposed to love a young girl, doesn’t. Isn’t that how that narrative goes? We’re in search of something, but we can’t quite place our finger on exactly what it is because we’ve never had it.

I enjoyed reading this book much more than I was expecting to. I found that I can relate to her in the fact that her story seems tied up in other people, yet she’s fiercely independent and can completely stand on her own. She is such a captivating human, and the way she loves is unique and passionate. All these stories have clearly affected her life quite a bit, and love makes you do crazy things. If you enjoy Judge This, I'd recommend Work Rules!: Insights from Inside Google That Will Transform How You Live and Lead (Google reveals its elegant methods of internal organization) and The Art of Stillness: Adventures in Going Nowhere (another TED talks book but about meditation instead of art design).

PDF / EPUB File Name: Judge_This_Cover_-_Brittany_Renner.pdf, Judge_This_Cover_-_Brittany_Renner.epub After eight years of living with my mom in Ohio, she randomly asked all of us if we wanted to move to Mississippi where my grandparents lived. My grandparents left Ohio because my grandpa found a job with better pay in Mississippi. Of course, we said yes! What child doesn't love their grandparents who spoil them rotten? Little did we know, our mom didn’t want to be a mom. She dropped us off at our grandparents’ house and we only saw her when she’d occasionally pop in to say hello. She often promised us things like outings to the movies or the zoo, but she almost never followed through on these promises. Even as children, my siblings and I would give her chance after chance to prove that each time would be different from the last, but the change we wanted never came. That constant fear of disappointment is something I still grapple with as an adult. I never hope for anything with too much excitement. I keep those feelings of anticipation at bay as a way to protect my heart from disappointment. As children, we are burdened with this nagging curse of unconditional love that binds us to these people who created us no matter how much they hurt us. The yearning for their love is constant. A liberating journey through the life and times of Brittany Renner. This book details the experiences of a woman whom some love and others love to hate. It’s a behind-the-scenes look into her life. Some may categorize and prejudge without knowing her story, but here is her truth. Written in a raw and real voice with wittiness and humor, Brittany allows you to walk a mile in her shoes. Depending on your appetite for truth and reality, this book may make you laugh, cry, cringe, or all of the above. You should never judge a book by its cover. Judge This Cover by Brittany Renner – eBook Details

This book is a woman famous for her ass-ets trying to write a book about love using the same lesson repeated and never learned with guys who we only care about because the media told us it was Drake or Tyga, but are clearly not. This is a book that clearly had very little direction in performance; granted this gave more of a candid feel. This book from chapter to chapter feels like a broken record and just when you thought she had a pearl of wisdom to give us, it turns out it was a bead out of her boba' tea.

On the days I felt like giving up and not finishing this book I thought of you. Not knowing when I’ll see you again makes me sad and blue, but when the sunshine greets me in the morning I know it’s you. Dedicated to my sweet Grams like I promised that night at Red Lobster... Well, it turns out that sometimes the stories behind the covers are better than the covers. Or maybe it's that I don't usually understand what Chip Kidd is referencing with his covers. This is my story of seven men and seven lessons, all based on true events. There is no denying that I cared about all seven men you will come to know, each for their own unique reasons. To pretend their roles didn’t impact my life would be a slap in the face to the knowledge I inherited. You can’t regret a person you once used to sweat. I’ve made naughty videos, sent shameless paragraphs, and a few heated voice texts that would make for great song intros. I came, I saw it wasn’t what I thought it would be, I learned, and I conquered. The names in this book will remain undisclosed, for my revenge is artistic, not personal. Take the billing on movie posters for example. I never knew that, by union contract, the names had to a certain size on the poster. Or, that there's a clearer font that could be used for improving the clarity of the names so that they can be read from further away, but it's never used. Who knew!
